Dust filled my car for nearly most of the way
A big green sign said a rest stop, up on the road a ways
A long cool drink and a friendly face, would help me see out this day

I walked in the bar – content to sit for a while
“Sit down here mate” an old man said with a smile
Where are you from my boy, the city’s no place for me
But let me tell you something for free, there’s nothing like it in the city

Have you ever seen the sky so blue – and all this open space
Have you ever seen a dust storm rage or the rain when this drought breaks
Have you ever seen the stars so bright – as you look up in the night?
Oh I wouldn’t trade my life up here – where a man can find his place

He said I seen a lot of people coming through here
Most are running – they just stop for a beer
They barely say a word to us – they just seem to file off the bus
But you miss so much when you’re in a rush – and life will pass you by
