The Centenary Song
04:46
|
|||
There’s an eerie sense of silence - You can hear it if you try
Of an age that’s long forgotten - Of a city and its pride
The surrounds are steeped in history - Of feats we’ll never know
Of pioneers and their families - As they came in search of gold.
The horses and the camel trains - The bullocks and the drays
Men pushin’ steel barrows - Over miles of rough terrain.
One thing they had in common - Never dreaming of their fate
That one day in the future - The Goldfields would take their place
Let’s look to the past with pride - 100 years have gone
Let’s reach out for the future - As we take it in our stride
Let the spirit of our forefathers - Be with us today
As we all get behind this town - Kalgoorlie-Boulder is here to stay
Many people have come and gone - But they’ve helped this town survive
The streets bear the name of those - And kept their spirit alive
Names like Hannan, O’Connor, Shea - And Brookman too.
Forrest, Evans, Cassidy and Flannigan - To name a few
There’s gold still in the ground - Tourisms on the move
Industry is rising fast - The city is set to boom.
Help each other make it great - Give someone a hand
Look out across the horizon - It’s bound to make you proud

The Barman's Song
02:54
|
|||
I was down in the big city, feeling as dry as a wooden god,
I decided I better start looking for a place to get a grog.
Then I saw a sign which said “Nifty’s Watering Hole”,
So I settled up to the bar and said, give me a pot of your best
When I went to pay the Barman said to me…..
Oh have a - drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
It seems the chap had won the pools or just plain flipped his lead,
But I didn’t mind drinkin his beer for a was of good cheer
Then came a lady is ugly as sin, fair dinkum she was bad,
But the Barman didn’t seem to mind as he took her by the hand - kiss her gamely
Then he began to sing…..
Oh have a - drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
All of a sudden it was closing time. The beer was gone and so was I
As they threw it out one by one, we could still hear the echo of the Barman song
Oh have a - drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Oh have a - drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Oh have a - drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me
Have a drink have a drink have a drink on me everybody drinks on me

The Old Miner
04:13
|
|||
I was walking the other day down a lonely bush track
I saw an old miner – he stopped and tipped his hat
He said “I’ve got the billy boiling, would you like to have a brew
Its been a long time since I’ve seen someone – and I’d like to talk to you”
I sat right down under a tree - He started to share with me
How he left his home in search of gold when he was 33
He said to his young lady “I’ll be back real soon – take care of the young ones
and don’t forget my love for you”
Oh life has not been kind – and gold is hard to find
The seasons can be cruel – but hard work will see me through
I know one day I’ll strike it rich – and go home to my young bride
I write each other week - And send her a pound or two
I tell her not to fret – and just how good I’m doin’
I wonder if she really knows – just how hard it is
And it bearks my heart every time – I think of her and the kids
As I sat down there in silence - My head towards the ground
Thinking of what to say – some words to ease the pain
But as I stood right up and looked around – where had the old man gone
All of a sudden I heard his words – that sent a chill through my bones
He said
Oh life has not been kind – and gold is hard to find
The seasons can be cruel – but hard work will see me through
I know one day I’ll strike it rich – and go home to my young bride
Oh life has not been kind – and gold is hard to find
The seasons can be cruel – but hard work will see me through
I know one day I’ll strike it rich – and go home to my young bride
Yes - I know one day I’ll strike it rich – and go home to my young bride

An Ode To Menzies
03:20
|
|||
Come and take a walk with me – as we go back through time
Will visit the people, the pubs and the mines
Will meet some of the characters and hear stories of their time
When Menzies was a thriving town - back before the dawn of time
Everyone would remember Old, Charlie Craig
The stories that he’d tell – though some were a bit vague
Then there’s Ben Della and his son Dave
For miles they would trudge - behind the donkey train
Close your eyes and think of Menzies and her passed
The lady Shannon the First Hit - we all thought they last
The Railway in the Menzies hotels - 13 pubs in all
It’s all gone now but the memories they linger on
Then there’s the Pianto Brothers, Aussie Harry and Jack
Many a bike race they won - to Kalgoorlie and back
As father Joe watch proudly - from the house upon the hill
All the towns folk used to praise them for their speed & their skill
Old Freddie Cox would have his say - in just about all the events of that day,
As Sawyers, Battery pounded the rocks – for the gold to be displayed
Colliers are in the pub, Robinson’s run the school,
Tom Wilson had the store, and the “White House” stood all alone
Close your eyes and think of Menzies and her passed
The lady Shannon the First Hit - we all thought they last
The Railway in the Menzies hotels - 13 pubs in all
It’s all gone now but the memories they linger on
As a child, I remember old Alex Brown,
One of the best aboriginal friends, a boy ever had,
We’d sit under the tree at Aunty, Is’s this place,
And make boomerangs and spears that never went any place
Now there’s been a handful of the old miners left,
Like May, Cummings, and Angelo, who still likes his beer the best,
George Templeton run the council and things were fair and aboveboard
It seems so sad that they’re all gone - but time catches up with us all.
Close your eyes and think of Menzies and her passed
The lady Shannon the First Hit - we all thought they last
The Railway in the Menzies hotels - 13 pubs in all
It’s all gone now but the memories they linger on

It started like any other day - On the goldfields of Bonnie-Vale
The sky was clear the sun was hot, it was a good day
It promised to stay that way
In the afternoon that all seemed to change - As storm clouds covered the sky
The thunder roared the lighting crashed - The rains it poured,
as water flooded the ground.
Timber, stones and muddy water - Gushed all into the mine
20 men scrambled to the surface- But one was left there behind
On level number 10, working all alone - Varischetti thought he was gone
But the message went out to everyone - A diver needed – come right along’.
Hold on Varischetti- We know it’s dark and cold
But you can count on your mates - They’d never leave you in that hole
They’re all working together - Trying to get you out
So you can once again - See the light of day.
A special train left from Perth that day - With diving gear and divers aboard
It broke all the records to Coolgardie - That stood for 50 odd years.
As the news was flashed around the world - ‘Chances of a rescue remote’
But we’re gonna stay here till it’s done - Cause down there’s a decent sort of bloke.
Nine days had passed and dives were made - By Hughes and Hearne every day
The decision was made – he comes up today
Cause the water has lowered enough.
The world held its breath as the divers went - Down to level number 10
Two attempts were made – Varischetti couldn’t wade
So Hughes carried him out alone.
They’re all worked together – They knew they’d get you out
So you could once again - See the light of day.
They still talk about it and books are written
About that day in 1907 - When the world stopped and watched
And history made - to save the life of a friend.

Spread A Little Sunshine
03:54
|
|||
I can still recall, what my daddy said to me
Way back when I used - to sit upon his knee
He’d call me to his side, just as the sun went down
With a smile in his eye – he’d say to me real proud
Be kind to the old folks – give‘em lots of love
Tell your children stories from the bible
Keep that dream within your heart - And never let it go
And spread a little sunshine – with a smile
Well I left home when I had just turned 21
With a song in my heart – we followed the sun
We went from place to place – tryin to find a trace
Of what my daddy told me – while keepin with the pace
But after we had traveled – half way round the world
Seeing all the types of people – from London to Napel
I came to realize – no matter where you go
People’s needs are still the same - So hear these words and so
Be kind to the old folks – give‘em lots of love
Tell your children stories from the bible
Keep that dream within your heart - And never let it go
And spread a little sunshine – with a smile
Today when my children – ask for my advise
I sit them down quietly – and tell them with a smile
Be kind to the old folks – give‘em lots of love
Tell your children stories from the bible
Keep that dream within your heart - And never let it go
And spread a little sunshine – with a smile
Keep that dream within your heart - And never let it go
And spread a little sunshine – with a smile
And spread a little sunshine – with a smile
And spread a little sunshine – give someone a big smile

He's A Cowboy
03:29
|
|||
I used to know a man such a long time ago
He’d ride over the rangers when I so young
He’s a cowboy - He’s a cowboy
He’d come past my place every single day –
Then without me he’d just ride away
He’s a cowboy - He’s a cowboy
He said he name was old Kenny Ball –
And he was quite content to live his life alone
He’s a cowboy - He’s a cowboy
Well old Kenny Ball he worked with my dad –
They’d work from early morning till dark
Cause they were cowboys - they were cowboys
They’d fix all the fence’s; they’d brand all the beef –
They’d ride a few bronc’s OH they were so neat
They were cowboys – they were cowboys
Then one day he didn’t come by –
I went looking for him and I thought I’d did
Where’s my cowboy – where’s my cowboy
Where have you gone old Kenny Ball –
Come back to me cause I need you so
I’m a cowboy –I’m a cowboy
That was long ago when I was a boy –
I remember him well, he was just like my toys
He’s a cowboy - He’s a cowboy
I used to know a man such a long time ago –
He’d ride over the rangers when I so young
He’s a cowboy - He’s a cowboy
Where’ my cowboy – I’m a cowboy
Where’ my cowboy - Where’ my cowboy

Come On Australia
03:57
|
|||
One night while I was standing
On the beach looking out to sea
I thought how far we’d come
Looking back to where we’ve been
From the time of Captain Cook
Right through to Bourke & Wills
From the great depression, the two world wars
Korea and Vietnam too
We’re a great sporting nation
Our athletes are some of the few
Who carry the Australian flag
Overseas for me and you
Come on Australia – we’re with you all the way
Come on Australia – this is your hour your day
Come on Australia – lift up your voice shout hooray
Come on Australia – it’s a proud moment and a proud day
There’s people from every land
From far across the sea
From China and England, Italy and France
And of course there’s the Kiwis
But the way we will survive
Is to live together as one
No black, no brown, no yellow, no white
I believe it can be done
