A Life Fulfilled

They met at church on Sunday – their eyes told them this was the one
He proposed to her on Monday – but she was promised to the butcher’s son
The war was raging in Europe – he’d just home on leave
He was off again in a week or two – so a short honeymoon would have to do

A little girl was born to him while he was away at the war
He came home 5 years on – to pick up where he’d left off
They moved from town to town so he could find work
And settled in the goldfields - and drove a truck for the council clerk

Over the years the family grew – 8 children all in all
But they worked hard, and built a life – making sure no one would fall

They built a life of love and faith where their children all felt safe
A place where they would always be listened
Somewhere to call home through life’s raging storms
Where fun and laughter always seemed the norm

It wasn’t long before the children – had children of their own
And they would come to grammas – as her cooking was well known
They’d all try and sit on grandpas knee – to hear the stories that he told
To look at them, quiet & still– was a sight to behold

As the years went on they both grew old – sitting down holding hands
But the spark in their eyes never dimed – they fulfilled all their plan
